In Council there was strong resistance to the amendment made to the RFA titled Voting By Chapter Strength. This RFA was not submitted with the purpose of changing the percentage of delegates required to call for a vote by chapter strength (from 25% to 2/3ds). That change was, to some of us, slipped in without the proper scope of notice. A strong argument on parliamentary grounds was made by the delegate from Boston but it was simply dismissed by the board.
Here is one rub: The RFA was submitted by the Bylaws Committee, and the representative from that committee argued that not only was that not the intention of the committee, it essentially meant that there would never again be a vote by chapter strength. Be sure to thank Nathan Mills for his service when you see him.
During the Northeast Regional Caucus I submitted my own nomination for Regional VP. Trust me, it was not planned or I would have had a better nomination speech. But it was made in a bit of a fit of frustration. There were 2 votes, both tied at 4/4 so I withdrew my nomination. While I am willing and able to serve I had no intention of fighting to the last round. I wish Keith Bowman well in his 2nd year as RVP.
Speaking only from my own experience with the Northeast Caucus, the remote voting by delegates went well. It was a little slow, both the remote part and the in-house part, because there are a number of votes to be taken and everyone is being very careful to do it correctly. Thanks for delegates from NYC and New York State.
